My Journey in Justice

I’m Tek Narayan Kunwar, and I currently serve as a President of Special Court in Kathmandu. My journey through the legal system has been both profound and fulfilling, grounded in a commitment to delivering justice and ensuring effective court administration.

Current Role (2017 – Present)

Since 2017, I’ve had the privilege of presiding over writ petitions and civil and criminal cases, striving to uphold justice across regions like Illam, Rajbiraj, Janakpur, Patan, and Dipayal. As of November 2023, I’m focused on implementing the court action plan at the Special Court, which is designed to streamline processes and enhance our judicial efficiency.

Previous Experience

Before stepping into my current role, I spent over a decade as a District Judge, serving from 2006 to 2017 in various districts, including Chitwan, Morang, Lalitpur, Makawanpur, Kathmandu, Bardiya, and Mugu. During that time, I not only heard cases but also took on the crucial task of judicial administration, always striving to ensure that justice was both fair and timely.

Earlier Positions

My career began in several administrative roles that built the foundation for my judicial expertise. As a Registrar at the Bhaktapur District Court from 2005 to 2006, I coordinated court operations, scheduled trials, and maintained vital judicial records. Prior to that, I worked as a Deputy Registrar at the Supreme Court of Nepal from 2001 to 2005, where I managed court operations and helped organize meetings for the full court.

My earlier experiences include serving as a Registrar at the District Court in Sarlahi (1999-2001), a Section Officer at the Appellate Court in Dipayal (1998-1999), and various roles that involved legal research and assisting judges. I even began my journey at the Nepal Law Reform Commission (1993-1994), where I helped draft contemporary laws and researched ways to strengthen our legal framework.

Commitment to Justice

Throughout my career, I have felt a profound duty to uphold the rule of law and ensure that every person is treated fairly in our judicial system. My diverse experiences across different courts and administrative roles have given me a deep understanding of the legal landscape, allowing me to contribute meaningfully to the administration of justice in Nepal.

As I move forward, I remain dedicated to fostering an efficient, transparent, and just legal system that truly serves the needs of our society.
